    About this debate

Many Londoners have struggled to find an affordable place to live - even when they have reasonably well paid jobs - so it might not come as a surprise that there is a thriving market for people who offer live-in services to landlords in return for free housing. These services can include, providing IT support, healthcare, and child-minding, but they also include sex.

Even though it is illegal for sex workers to advertise their services, it is not against the law to actually sell sex and it is also perfectly legal for prospective customers to advertise what they can offer in return. The result is that some landlords are posting adverts on-line offering free housing to tenants who are willing to sleep with them on-demand.

Does this amount to exploitation of vulnerable people as the campaigners who are trying to ban these adverts claim? Or is it simply a private matter for the tenants in question who are under no obligation to accept the landlord's terms?

    You decide.
